Serves : 4 Nos.
Goes well with: Sambar, Brinjal Gosthu, Coconut Chutney, Peanut chutney.
Ingredients:
- Raw / Boiled Rice – 3/4 cup
- Moong Dal – 1/4 cup
- Cooking Oil – 2 tbsp
- Ghee – 6 tbsp (add more if required)
- Ginger – 1 Inch (grated)
- Black Pepper – 2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – 2 tbsp
- Curry leaves – 1 strand
- Hing – 2 pinches
- Green Chilli – 1 (optional)
- Cashew – 10 Nos (optional)
- Salt – As required
- Water – 3cup
Traditional Method :
- Add rice into a Pan/ Kadai and dry toast it in medium flame until rice gets slightly toasted texture. Keep it in a bowl adding water to get soaked for 5-10 mins.
- Add moong dal into the pan and roast it until you get the aroma(note: don’t let it turn brown). Keep it aside.
- Take a pressure cooker add water and salt, check the taste add more salt if required
- Once water boils add the washed rice and moong dal into the pressure cooker
- Keep the flame in medium and leave it for 2-3 whistles
- Allow it to cool down
- Take a pan add oil and ghee (keep the stove in medium flame)
- Add black pepper, cumin seeds, ginger, green chilli, cashew, hing, curry leaves – one after the other
- Add the cooked dal-rice into the pan and mix it well until oil mixes ( don’t over mix , daln rice might get too mashed)
Quick Method :
- Take a pressure cooker add oil and ghee (keep the stove on medium flame) then add black pepper , cumin seeds, ginger, green chilli, cashew, hing, curry leaves – one after the other .
- Add water and salt, check the taste add more salt if required
- Once water boils add the washed rice and moong dal into the pressure cooker
- Keep the flame in medium and leave it for 2-3 whistles
- Add 1 tbsp ghee before serving.
